PEKANBARU – PT Astra Otoparts Tbk (“Astra Otoparts”), through its Astra Otopower brand, has officially launched a public electric vehicle charging station (SPKLU) at the parking area of Kedai Kopi Kimteng – Soekarno Hatta, Pekanbaru. This 30 kWh fast-charging facility began operating in late July, marking Astra Otopower’s first step in expanding to the island of Sumatra.
Pekanbaru was chosen as a strategic location due to its growing number of electric vehicle (EV) users. The local government’s commitment to promoting eco-friendly transportation is becoming more evident, with the launch of electric-powered public transport services and plans to add hundreds more electric vehicles to the city’s fleet in the future.
According to data from PLN UP3 Pekanbaru, by the end of 2024, the number of EVs in the city had surged by 150 percent in just one year. This growth highlights a positive trend in EV adoption and underscores the urgent need to expand charging infrastructure (SPKLU).
The presence of Astra Otopower in Pekanbaru supports the city’s vision of becoming a low-emission city with sustainable mobility.“We believe that electrification is not only about technology, but also about access. Astra Otopower’s presence in Pekanbaru is a manifestation of our commitment to accelerating the equitable development of the EV ecosystem beyond Java,” said T. This initiative also acts as a catalyst for stronger collaboration with the local community. Placing Astra Otopower at Kedai Kopi Kimteng reflects a strong local partnership, as Kimteng is more than just a place to eat—it is an iconic culinary destination in Pekanbaru.
As of mid-2025, Astra Otopower is available at more than 40 locations in various cities across Indonesia, with plans to expand to other strategic regions to meet the growing needs of EV drivers.
