PALEMBANG: In supporting the transition toward a sustainable future, PT Astra Otoparts Tbk continues to expand the reach of Indonesia’s electric vehicle infrastructure through the Astra Otopower initiative. The Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) charging facility has officially begun operations at the South Entrance area of Palembang Icon Mall, following earlier expansions in Pekanbaru and other major cities.
This expansion marks a strategic step for Astra Otopower in strengthening the EV infrastructure network by providing accessible and integrated charging facilities across Indonesia. The initiative aligns with the growing penetration of electric vehicles, which directly drives demand for charging infrastructure.
Palembang Icon Mall was chosen as the latest Astra Otopower location because it is one of the city’s largest shopping centers with a strategic and easily accessible location. This makes it an ideal point for bringing EV infrastructure closer to the public.
T. Martogi Siahaan, Director of PT Astra Otoparts Tbk, said, “The Astra Otopower facility we are presenting at Palembang Icon Mall is a Fast Charger with a 30kW DC CCS connector, capable of supporting faster and more efficient EV charging. For now, Astra Otopower charging services at Palembang Icon Mall remain non-commercial, so they can be enjoyed by EV users free of charge.”
“The presence of an EV charging station at Palembang Icon also aims to accelerate the development of the national EV ecosystem. This initiative is in line with Lippo Malls’ commitment to implementing sustainability principles across its shopping centers. The facility is part of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs continuously developed by Lippo Malls as Indonesia’s largest shopping mall operator,” said Didi Halim Simon, Regional Mall Director of Lippo Malls Indonesia Palembang.
The availability of this facility is expected to provide additional convenience for visitors while expanding access to EV infrastructure in strategic public spaces.
Currently, Astra Otopower has established 42 locations across Indonesia, spanning office areas, residential complexes, rest areas, and shopping centers. Moving forward, Astra Otopower will continue to expand infrastructure coverage in other major cities while actively supporting the government’s target for the development of the national EV ecosystem.
