Small, consistent steps can bring about significant change for the environment. This is precisely what PT Astra Otoparts Tbk Group (“Astra Otoparts”), together with the Cipta Pesona Desa (CPD) Community, has been doing to preserve the coastal area of Muarabaru Village, Cilamaya Wetan District, Karawang Regency, West Java.
Since 2021, Astra Otoparts has planted nearly 60,000 mangrove trees, including an additional 10,000 trees during a planting activity held on Thursday (June 26). This commitment aligns with the Astra for a Green Indonesia pillar, which focuses on environmental conservation and sustainability.
The mangrove planting event was attended by Astra Otoparts Group management, representatives from local government agencies such as the West Java Provincial Forestry Office and the Karawang Environmental Agency. In addition to planting, the event also marked the groundbreaking of a conservation pier that will support mangrove education and eco-tourism activities.
According to M. Gama Prastowo, Head of the SESR Department at Astra Otoparts, mangroves play a vital role in protecting coastal areas from abrasion. The team, in collaboration with the CPD Community, also conducts regular monitoring to ensure sustainability.
“What has long been a hope is starting to come true today. Our vision is to transform Muarabaru into a tourism village that supports both environmental preservation and community welfare,” said Lasmawati, Head of the Regional Forestry Branch Office II.
“We extend our highest appreciation to Astra Otoparts, which has not only provided material support but also guided us with strong commitment,” expressed Toni, Head of the CPD Community.
This initiative demonstrates that collaboration between companies and communities can yield long-term impact, paving the way for a greener and more sustainable coastal future.
