Overcoming Abrasion, Astra Otoparts Inaugurates Arboretum as the Initial Series of Prosperous Village Programs Built by Astra Otoparts Group

 

The Astra Otoparts Group inaugurated the 10-hectare Arboretum covering a total area of 30 hectares in the Sedari Coast area of Karawang Regency on Friday, August 10, 2018. The arboretum or commonly known as this botanical garden was inaugurated by the Regent of Karawang Cellica Nurrachadiana, accompanied by the Director of Astra Agus Baskoro's Otoparts.

Sedari Beach, which is the location of the Arboretum of the Astra Otoparts group, is located on the north coast of Karawang and is listed as one of the villages in the estuary area of the Citarum River, with a number of families reaching approximately 1,466 people. With a stretch of beach that snakes and faces the Java Sea, the coast of Sedari is prone to sea abrasion. In addition, the emergence of arising land that needs 30 hectares of reforestation in the coastal area, the lack of green open land, as well as various other social problems make Sedari Village an area designated as Prosperous Village guided by Astra Otoparts group.

The inauguration of the first stage of the Arboretum was the initial series of the Prosperous Village Program of the Astra Otoparts group attended by Representative of the Head of Environmental Conservation and Climate Change West Java Province Anang Sudarna, Village Head Sedari Bisri Mustofa, Management group Astra Otoparts, representative of the ESR Division Astra International, as well as the Karawang Ecovillage network, managed to plant 2,800 trees in that location.

 

 

Thousands of trees with diverse species, including Neka-neka trees, Pandan Laut, Ketapang, Cemara laut, Coconut, Aren, Mahogany, and various kinds of fruit trees, are expected to increase green open space as well as water catchment areas in Sedari Village. , while reducing the impact and rate of abrasion as well as tackling tidal flooding in Sedari Beach.

In addition to the choice of tree species, later the local population can use the results. Both to be consumed independently or reprocessed into a typical Village product. In accordance with the name and function of the Arboretum, this Sedari Beach will also be able to become an educational and recreational facility for communities around the village of Sedari.

"It is our great hope that this activity can help the welfare of Sedari Village, the Arboretum garden area besides producing fruit can also be an education or campsite so that this place becomes more crowded and advanced," said Agus Baskoro.
